Furniture designer Ariane Thakore Ginwala has a deep connection to her family’s ancestral home in Goa. The 150-year-old Portuguese villa, located in the village of Aldona, has been in the family for generations. When Thakore Ginwala inherited the property, she knew she wanted to restore it to its former glory.
The restoration process was a labor of love for Thakore Ginwala. She worked closely with architecture firm Field Atelier to preserve the villa’s original character while also updating it for modern living. The result is a stunning home that is both charming and stylish.
The villa’s exterior has been carefully restored, with the original whitewashed walls and terracotta tiles being preserved. The interior has been given a more contemporary update, with light and airy spaces that are perfect for relaxing and entertaining.
One of the most striking features of the villa is its courtyard. The courtyard is filled with lush greenery, including a chikoo tree that is over 100 years old. The courtyard is a peaceful oasis that is perfect for spending time outdoors.
The villa also features a number of traditional Portuguese elements, such as azulejo tiles and carved wooden doors. These elements add a touch of charm and authenticity to the home.
Thakore Ginwala is thrilled with the results of the restoration. She says that the villa is now a “calm and cozy retreat” that is perfect for her family and friends. She is also excited to share the villa with others, and she plans to open it up as a vacation rental in the future.
The restoration of Thakore Ginwala’s family villa is a testament to her love of history and her commitment to preserving her family’s legacy. The villa is now a beautiful and welcoming home that will be enjoyed by generations to come.
